What to inspect
Compare the amount agreed with the actual transaction in your account. Note requests to send the difference to a courier, relative, or different account. Keep the watch and funds unchanged while the provider investigates.
A practical workflow
Save the messages and transaction reference, then ask the provider how to reverse or correct the original transaction safely. Do not use a new payment route merely because the buyer says it is faster.
When to pause or proceed
Stop the sale if the buyer pressures you to move money before the provider confirms the process. If you already sent funds, notify the provider promptly with both transaction references.
Worked example
Imagine a buyer claims to include extra shipping money and asks you to pay their courier by transfer. You would be making a separate payment before knowing whether the buyer’s funds are valid.
Illustrative scenario, not a customer case or reported event.
Wording you can adapt
Use this for the relevant contact or as a private task note. Replace bracketed fields with accurate details and send sensitive records only through an appropriate secure channel.
The payment amount differs from our agreement. I will ask the payment provider to confirm the transaction and explain its correction process. I will not send a separate refund to a new account or pay a third party on the basis of this message. The watch remains with me while the discrepancy is resolved.
Your working record
Copy these fields into a private note. For each entry, add the source file or contact, the date checked, and anything still unresolved. Leave unknown information marked unknown; do not guess to complete the sheet.

Verify the request outside the message that delivered it
A convincing message can contain a false payment destination or a link to an imitation service. Treat the identity of the sender, the destination of the money, and the status of the transaction as separate checks. Open your payment account or marketplace directly, using an address you already trust. A screenshot supplied by the other party is not the same evidence as a transaction visible in your own account.
When something changes, preserve the earlier instructions before responding. Note the account name, destination, amount, time, and stated reason for the change. Confirm the change with the established business using independently obtained contact details. If you already paid, contact your payment provider promptly and ask which evidence and deadlines apply. Keep the original correspondence even if a profile or listing disappears.
No payment method makes a watch purchase risk-free. Recovery rights depend on the provider, payment type, timing, and jurisdiction. Do not send another payment to someone promising that it will unlock a refund.
Can I keep the excess until everything clears?
Ask the provider how to handle it and avoid spending or forwarding it. Do not assume a particular waiting period makes a suspicious payment safe; the relevant rules depend on the method.

Check a watch serial number
A MyStolenWatch search checks reports held in this database. A no-match result does not certify authenticity, ownership, or an absence of theft elsewhere. Check current pricing before purchasing a search.
