What to inspect
Check the exact domain, business identity, contact details, and terms for holding and releasing money. Ask who controls the transaction and how a dispute is handled. Avoid relying on reviews linked only by the person requesting payment.
A practical workflow
Contact the provider independently and verify the transaction reference and payment destination. Read the inspection and release conditions before funding it. Keep communications and receipts from the provider’s own channel.
When to pause or proceed
Decline an arrangement where the other party insists on an unfamiliar service but prevents independent verification. Do not send a small ‘test’ payment as a substitute for checking the provider.
Worked example
Imagine a seller sends an escrow page with a domain differing by one character from a known service. Navigate independently to the genuine provider and ask whether the claimed transaction exists.
Illustrative scenario, not a customer case or reported event.
Wording you can adapt
Use this for the relevant contact or as a private task note. Replace bracketed fields with accurate details and send sensitive records only through an appropriate secure channel.
Could your official support team confirm that transaction [reference] exists and identify the authorized funding and release process? Please explain the inspection period and dispute route under your current terms. I found the provider independently and will verify the transaction within its own system before sending any payment.
Your working record
Copy these fields into a private note. For each entry, add the source file or contact, the date checked, and anything still unresolved. Leave unknown information marked unknown; do not guess to complete the sheet.

Verify the request outside the message that delivered it
A convincing message can contain a false payment destination or a link to an imitation service. Treat the identity of the sender, the destination of the money, and the status of the transaction as separate checks. Open your payment account or marketplace directly, using an address you already trust. A screenshot supplied by the other party is not the same evidence as a transaction visible in your own account.
When something changes, preserve the earlier instructions before responding. Note the account name, destination, amount, time, and stated reason for the change. Confirm the change with the established business using independently obtained contact details. If you already paid, contact your payment provider promptly and ask which evidence and deadlines apply. Keep the original correspondence even if a profile or listing disappears.
No payment method makes a watch purchase risk-free. Recovery rights depend on the provider, payment type, timing, and jurisdiction. Do not send another payment to someone promising that it will unlock a refund.
Does HTTPS mean an escrow site is safe?
HTTPS protects the connection to a site; it does not prove the operator is legitimate. Fraudulent sites can also use encrypted connections. Verify the business and transaction separately.

Check a watch serial number
A MyStolenWatch search checks reports held in this database. A no-match result does not certify authenticity, ownership, or an absence of theft elsewhere. Check current pricing before purchasing a search.
