Where to Find a Cartier Watch Serial Number and What to Check
Locate a Cartier watch serial on the caseback and warranty card, distinguish it from other markings, and understand the limits of a database check.

Step 1
Photograph the caseback and warranty card
Cartier's own Cartier Care guidance locates the watch serial on the warranty card and engraved on the back of the timepiece. Take a clear photograph of the entire back, then a closer view of the identifier. Compare every character with the card rather than relying on the seller's typed description. If glare hides part of the engraving, change the lighting; don't polish or scrape the case to make the number easier to read.
Step 2
Identify which marking belongs to this individual watch
A caseback can carry several markings. Keep the serial separate from a model reference, material marking or numbered-edition inscription. A Tank or Santos model name alone won't identify the watch you want to check. Use the labelled warranty information to help distinguish the numbers, and ask Cartier for guidance if the watch or documents leave the identification unclear. Guessing from the length of a number is a poor basis for a purchase decision.
Step 3
Separate Cartier Care from a theft-record search
Cartier uses the serial as part of registration for Cartier Care. That is a different purpose from searching lost or stolen reports in MyStolenWatch. Don't present successful entry into a registration form, possession of a card or a plausible engraving as proof of ownership. Review the seller's purchase documents and keep a record of how the watch reached the seller. A worn or unfamiliar marking needs an explanation, not an invented production date from a generic decoder.
Step 4
Search the confirmed serial before payment
Choose Cartier in the MyStolenWatch search form and enter the complete serial once you have verified it. Review the paid search packages before buying credits. A matching report is a reason to pause and check the details with support; a no-match result only describes the records searched at that time. Neither result authenticates the physical watch. Arrange a separate professional inspection if you need to assess its condition or authenticity, and keep the search result with the photographs and transaction documents.

Run a serial number check
A database search is a quick way to identify known lost or stolen reports before a watch changes hands.
Search the databaseFrequently asked questions
Where should I look for a Cartier watch serial?
Cartier directs owners to the warranty card and engraving on the back of the timepiece. For an unusual or unclear marking, ask Cartier about the exact watch rather than opening the case yourself.
Can I check a Cartier Tank or Santos by model name?
A model name describes a family of watches. To run an individual serial-number check, obtain the full serial from the watch and compare it with the accompanying documents.
Does MyStolenWatch access Cartier's internal records?
No. The search concerns records available in MyStolenWatch. It isn't a Cartier registration, warranty or authentication service.
What if the warranty card is missing?
Start with the caseback engraving, request purchase and service documentation, and ask for help identifying unclear markings. Missing papers do not by themselves establish theft or authenticity, but they leave more history to verify.
